If you'd like to direct a domain that you have to some other domain address or subdomain, one way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain being pointed loses all its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it's forwarded to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be pointed to the Internet site you have set up, but it will also be displayed in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because such a record created for the main domain address renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Website Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record through our Linux cloud website hosting services is quite easy. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account in a couple of easy steps. You will find a video tutorial inside the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature will give you many opportunities - if you set up a company website on our end, as an illustration, the workers can use their emails with the company domain, not with the address of our mail server. If you decide to create an Internet site using a different company that offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain name hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, if you have an on-line store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you could create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and point it to the main domain address, so all your clients will be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

You are going to be able to set up, change and delete CNAME records very easy with any one of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are handled using the custom Hepsia hosting Control Panel, and in one of its sections you will see all records for every domain name or subdomain that you have added in your account. To set up a new record, you only have to select the hostname that will be forwarded (domain/subdomain), input where it is going to be forwarded to, select the record type, which will be CNAME in this case, and you are going to be all set. Even when you haven't used a web hosting service before, our Control Panel is quite intuitive to use, so you will not have any problems. We also have a short video and an in-depth help article regarding how to set up a CNAME record, both of which can be found in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this function, you can easily use a domain hosted on our cutting edge cloud hosting platform for a website created elsewhere, create a custom webmail login address with any of your domain names, plus much more.
